"What the two sides agree on is that there is no road-map to guide young people through the transitions.". In my opinion, a person is an adult as soon as they hit the age of 18. The reason being is because as soon as they hit the age of 18 they are looked at as an adult. They are looked at as an adult not only by people that are younger than them but also through the eyes of the legal system and future employers to name a few. At the age of 18 many things change. As an employee, they can work limitless hours and they have a plethora of job openings. Also, at the young age of 18, the person assumes more responsibilities and harder punishments.. For example, an 18 year old is going to get in more trouble than a 14 year old if they were both to do something illegal.
This article recommends that an adult is "someone who-accepts responsibility, makes independent decisions, and becomes financially independent.". I believe that this quote is where a boy becomes a man and a girl becomes a woman. I believe that in order to be an adult you don't have to be responsible, you don't have to be able to make independent decisions and you don't have to be financially independent. Lets say there is a 45 year old man who is mentally disabled. Is he not an adult because he is unable to make decisions for himself? Is he not an adult because he doesn't hold have the capability to be as responsible as the average joe? He is still considered an elder, is he not?
